Members of the public have the opportunity to comment tonight on the proposed 2007-2008 Lawrence public schools budget.

Board members will call to order a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room of the Educational Support and Distribution Center, 110 McDonald Drive.

The school board is considering about a 0.25 mill levy decrease compared with last year's budget.

District leaders said the decrease was possible because they have kept costs for ongoing bond-funded construction projects at or under budget.

After the hearing, board members will have their regular meeting at 7 p.m., which includes considering approval of the board's maximum budget authority.

Just curious; which of us who always rant and rave about the need for decreased tax burdens went to this hearing to comment?
