City doesn’t get it

To the editor:

Once again, the City Commission just doesn’t get it. Punish everyone to the benefit of a few. Raise everyone’s property taxes so the buses don’t shut down two hours earlier – yeah, that’s just brilliant. As for people not being able to get to work, buy a bicycle or call a cab. That is a weak argument. Oh, while we are raising taxes, let’s give city employees a raise. Who is going to give me a raise to pay for my increased taxes? No one, that’s who.

How much more can we take? I’m being crushed by the weight of the nickels and dimes the city keeps heaping on my back. Hey, let’s raise the sales tax! I’ll tell you what. If the city closes the T, I’ll vote for the sales tax increase. Our kids need better recreational facilities more than we need the T. While we are milking the citizens, let’s raise water and sanitation charges. The city’s economy is in the toilet, so let’s take away even more money from our people.

Sales tax revenues are down? Yes, because we have less to spend. And thanks for kowtowing to Wal-Mart. This city needs another Wal-Mart as much as it needs another pothole or roundabout. The City Commission just doesn’t get.
