Tonganoxie projects won’t stop school

The Tonganoxie school district is overhauling its computer system and finishing up remodeling of its elementary school as it prepares for classes to start Wednesday.

But the ongoing work projects are not expected to interfere with the start of school, Superintendent Richard Erickson said.

“These are just minor details and inconveniences that we deal with every day, and we are going to work to make things happen,” Erickson said.

Lunches for the elementary school may have to be prepared at the district’s other kitchens for a few days and then shipped to the school as the remodeling continues.

“We may not have access to that kitchen,” Erickson said.

The work at the elementary school is in the final phase of a $25.3 million building program patrons approved three years ago.

The district’s computer system has been undergoing an overhaul since a new technology coordinator was hired last month, Erickson said.

The coordinator, David Milhon, started work about two weeks ago.

“He’s doing a super job,” the superintendent said.
