Pseudo news

To the editor:

In a surprisingly pseudo-news reporting effort Thursday, the Journal-World ran with this line at the very top of the Sports front page: “Basketball: KU freshman Cole Aldrich fine after bridge collapses in Minneapolis. 3B.” Flipping to referred page 3 of the section, I saw in the boldest print on the page the story entitled “KU freshman uninjured in collapse” and I learned that “Cole Aldrich and his loved ones were safe and sound in their hometown of Bloomington, Minn. : 20 miles from the bridge that collapsed.”

Well, WHEW! I seriously doubt the thought came to readers’ minds as they read or saw coverage of this tragedy, “Wow, that’s awful, but will our KU basketball season be affected by it?” Insulting, misleading and unnecessary news fluff.
