Pain shuffle
To the editor:
The school board and city and county commissions have talked about raising taxes. When you raise taxes you do not solve problems. You just move the pain around. One comment from the city for wanting to raise taxes is to give city employees a raise. So you take from some who cannot afford to pay more and give to someone to make their life easier. You just moved the pain from one person to another. You want to save money, here are two ways:
¢ On Saturday, July 7, at 5 p.m. at 31st and Iowa I saw two T buses, and no one was on either except the driver. The T is costing too much money to help a few. Reduce the hours of operation or get rid of the T all together.
¢ I see so many city employees driving city vehicles home at night. Everyone does not have a critical job. Cut the city fleet of vehicles and eliminate any personal use of city cars.
I would like the school board, city and county commissions to do two things: Form a board (made up of seniors or low-income people) that will have access to city reports to make recommendations on how to cut the budget. Second, hold “town hall” meetings with these same groups of people so our elected officials can hear firsthand how taxes are costing people out of their houses.
The city talks about cutting services, so do seniors. It is called food or medicine.
