KU custodian dies

Gary Lee Davis, a 56-year-old Kansas University Facilities Operations employee, died early Wednesday morning.

According to Capt. Schuyler Bailey of the Kansas University Public Safety Office, Davis was found behind Spencer Art Museum about 5 a.m. He was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he died about 5:40 a.m.

According to a statement released by KU, Davis had worked as a custodian in Smith and Dyche halls since January 2006.

He attended high school and college in Fort Scott and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by two sons, a daughter, his mother, three brothers and four sisters. Services will be in Fort Scott.

No other information was available Thursday evening.
