Topeka Baoqing Zhou of Lawrence met Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Tuesday as part of her recognition for having won a prestigious scholarship.
Zhou, a senior at Lawrence High School, and Jimmy Ma of Overland Park won $2,000 college scholarships each for scoring the highest marks in Kansas on the College Board's Advanced Placement Program in science and math.
The award is made by the Siemens Foundation and honors the top male and female scorer in each state with the best performance on the most math and science AP exams. More than 300,000 students take AP math and science exams each year.
Earlier this year, Zhou was named a National Merit Scholar. She plans to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
