Residents nominated for board of directors
Seven Lawrence residents have received nominations to serve two-year terms on the Lawrence Humane Society’s board of directors.
The nominees are expected to be officially elected for the seven positions during a meeting at 7 p.m. May 8 at the Charles Ise Memorial Animal Shelter.
The nominees are: veterinarian Courtney Gibbs; Scott Heidner, who works for an association management and government relations firm in Topeka; Joan Noller, who has served four years on the humane society’s board; Sue Novak, lecturer and coordinator for the Bremner Editing Center at Kansas University’s School of Journalism; Lawrence police officer Jim Phillips; insurance account executive Debbie Smith; and Susan Stuever, a nurse practitioner.
Midge Grinstead, the humane society’s executive director, said volunteers and staff soon will mail out information as part of the capital campaign for renovation and expansion of the shelter.
Grinstead said the society has raised about half of the needed $525,000 through donations and grants. Leaders hope to raise about $250,000 more through the campaign to avoid dipping into a $400,000 loan.
Lawrence-based marketing firm Callahan Creek has donated services for information packets that will be sent to donors.
