Man hit in face in early morning incident

Suffers broken nose

A 34-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man suffered a broken nose when he was attacked early Saturday morning in Lawrence’s downtown, according to Lawrence police.

Police said the victim reported he and a female friend had just had an argument about 12:30 a.m. while standing on the east sidewalk in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street.

The victim told police that an unidentified male yelled at him from the west side of the street.

“The victim reports he responded with a gesture and turned to walk toward the Granada,” said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman.

That’s when the victim said he was suddenly struck in the face, Murphree said.

The victim reported that another person told him that a white male had struck him and ran north on Massachusetts Street, police reported.

Police said they contacted the victim’s friends and tried unsuccessfully to locate the assailant.
