Children’s advocate joins commission

Crystal D. O’Brien, Lawrence, has been appointed to serve a four-year term on the Advisory Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced last week.

The commission advises Rod Bremby, Kansas secretary of health and environment, on matters relating to children with special health care needs.

O’Brien works as a co-lead teacher at Sunshine Acres Montessori Preschool and Child Care Center in Lawrence and previously was a manager at The Walt Disney Co.’s Overland Park facility.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and special education from Emporia State University.
