Rude references

To the editor:

Recent coverage of Bob Huggins' resignation from Kansas State University's basketball program used "Huggie" and "Huggieville" to refer to the coach. This kind of name-calling is rude and disrespectful. I, a longtime resident of Lawrence and supporter of K-State, do not appreciate it.

You live in a college town, get over it or move.

Good lord of all the problems we have in life and someone has to write into the editor about that.

I guess someone forgot to tell Corrine that the terms "Huggie" and "Huggieville" were all the rage in Manhattan. Or, is it possible that Corrine doesn't GO to basketball games?

LJW wasn't the only paper to use those comments. Didn't the K-State t-shirts also use those nicknames??

mom_of_three is correct: The terms "Huggie" and "Huggieville" appeared on shirts, posters, banners... all kinds of stuff. It's not every coach that inspires catchy nicknames and catchphrases in the locals. These were originally meant as signs of affection, back in spring of last year, when people thought Huggins was going to do a good job at K-State. When he bolted and screwed 'em over the way he did, the banners and posters went onto the trash heap, the shirts were tossed out or given to the homeless.

Incidentally, after Bob's rapid skedaddle, some *new* posters and banners began to sprout up... a few of 'em are still up in apartment windows and the like. I hope Miss Willits doesn't see any of those--she'd probably faint!

how long did it take to get this worked up??

I think Corrine is a poser (not a K-State fan) taking a derisive jab at KSU. If not, this has to be the most stunningly stupid letter to the editor that I have seen. Either way, I don't know how the LJW thought it was worthy of print.
