Purple prose
To the editor:
I enjoyed and was stimulated by the purple prose in Chuck Berg’s review of the performance by the Emerson String Quartet at the Lied Center. I thought Berg reached a high point with his comments about the Nielson piece: “(It) was a poignant elegy that again called on the somber end of the Emerson’s rich emotive palette. With its astringent harmonies and thickly layered and fully bowed textures, it was also a perfect setup for the evening’s most challenging work.”
Being a chamber music lover, I think I shall get in touch with Amazon and order a Nielson CD, seriously.
