ECKAN cancels April distribution

The East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation will not distribute commodity food items in any of its counties during April because no food products are available.

The organization assists low-income families in Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Lyon, Miami and Osage counties.

The organization usually distributes in Lawrence on the fourth Thursday of every month. ECKAN will still distribute through its food pantries.

“There has been a slight decline in the amount of commodities that we get,” said Jim Baze, commodity director for ECKAN. “We will get another delivery in May, and we’ll be able to do May and June.”
