Theft prevention

To the editor:

When I was reading the article “Police investigating rash of car burglaries,” it amazed me how people could have the guts to steal someone’s car right out of their garage when they were at home asleep. However, these cars wouldn’t likely have been stolen if they didn’t leave their garage doors open at night and the car unlocked with an extra key inside the car. Burglars probably sometimes go to the blocks that are considered “safe” because people are so sure that nothing will happen when really it’s not as safe as you may think. There can be theft anywhere, and it doesn’t matter where you live.

I think that every neighborhood should have some sort of neighborhood watch, but people also should take extra precautions by keeping garages closed and keeping the spare key in your purse or somewhere in your house.
