Demand change
To the editor:
As the mother of a university student, my heart is so broken for the families involved in this horrific event. I believe the media could have held off on the word “massacre” until all the families of the dead had been notified.
It has already started; people are screaming for change. I want to give everyone a reality check: Change costs millions, if not billions, of dollars. Will Kansas University or any other university spend millions of dollars on metal detectors?
Here are a few examples when change was screamed for:
l The 9/11 Commission – next to none of its recommendations have been implemented.
l How many airlines have secured all their cockpits?
l My family is from Louisiana. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, knew those levees would not hold back the water of any major storm. However, it was voted down time and time again when the state wanted to raise taxes for new levees.
Yes, demand change but then go to the people that can make it happen.
All the media scrambled to get every mental expert out there to look for anyone that is acting not themselves.
Never underestimate the power of people not to pay attention.
Sebelius is so very pro-casino, so why not have every student from junior high and high schools and every university demand that a part of the state’s take be used to buy safety measures for schools?
