Arthritis Walk to start at aquatic center

The second annual Arthritis Walk is set for April 28 in northwest Lawrence.

Registration for the walk opens at 8 a.m. at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive.

At 9 a.m., walkers will have a choice of either a one-mile or a three-mile walk from the center. There also will be a dog walk.

The event is at the aquatic center so participants can learn how water/physical therapy and exercise helps to relieve pain and joint stiffness.

Walkers who raise $100 or more will receive an Arthritis Walk T-shirt. Participants in the dog walk who raise $100 or more will receive a free walk T-shirt for their canine, compliments of Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

Local celebrities involved in the project include Kansas University women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson and Jayhawk announcer Chris Piper, his wife, Kristin, and his daughter, Kate, 6, who has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
