Book sale to go on despite foul weather

It might feel like winter.

But the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library Spring Book Sale won’t be canceled because of the chilly weather, according to organizers.

The sale, which started this week at the library tent at Seventh and Kentucky streets, will continue from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

Sunday’s hours – for a half-price day – will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Books available for sale are in classics, science, business, computers, foreign languages, health and medicine, reference, the arts, encyclopedias, hobbies, and how-to.

Organizers say the library is “overflowing” in the categories of romance, history, fiction and cookbooks. Other items for sale include videos, records, tapes, CDs, magazines and maps. Large numbers of children’s books also are for sale.

Proceeds will support programs such as summer reading, author visits, material purchases and Internet access at the library.

Next week’s hours are:

¢ Monday: “$7 Bag Night,” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

¢ Thursday: “$5 Bag Night,” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The sale concludes with two “giveaway days,” when all remaining books are free, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21, and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 22.
