Contractor injured in fall at Westar center

A Wichita insulation contractor fell two stories Thursday morning at Westar Energy’s Lawrence Energy Center and was flown by helicopter ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

The man’s injuries were not life-threatening, said Mark Bradford, chief of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.

About 9:30 a.m., crews responded to the energy center, 1250 N. 1800 Road. It is home to a coal-fired plant on the northwest outskirts of the city.

Douglas County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said the man was 25 years old. His name was unavailable Thursday.

Westar spokeswoman Erin Dehn said the injured man was an employee of F&H Insulation in Kechi. Dehn said Westar would conduct its own investigation of the accident.

A call to F&H Insulation was not returned Thursday.
