Persistent rain Wednesday forced further postponements of city high school outdoor sports events.

School officials had hoped to play Tuesday’s scheduled Lawrence-Free State baseball game Wednesday, but the FSHS field was too wet.

Free State is scheduled to meet Leavenworth at 4 p.m. today at Kauffman Stadium, while Lawrence High is slated to battle Shawnee Mission South at 5:30 p.m. today at Ice Field.

Also, the Olathe East-Free State softball doubleheader that had been postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday because of rain had to be scrapped.

Lawrence High’s boys golf team was set to participate in the Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational at Falcon Lakes, but that meet was called off.

Also postponed was Lawrence High’s girls soccer match with SM Northwest at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.
