Don’t whine

To the editor:

OK, folks, are we done singing the blues yet over the relocation of the KU-Mizzou football game to Arrowhead Stadium? I too will miss the ambiance of the “border war” being held in Lawrence, but there are thousands of Kansas University and Mizzou fans scattered across both states, especially in the metro area, for whom a game at this larger stadium is a major convenience.

Lew Perkins was hired to boost the visibility and ticket sales of KU athletic programs, and that’s what this will accomplish.

The Kansas Legislature has been talking recently about financing deferred maintenance with local property taxes levied on university towns. I oppose that idea for the same reason I oppose all this whining. KU belongs to the people of Kansas, both to enjoy and pay for. Like it or not, it’s bigger than Lawrence, and certainly bigger than the interests of Lawrence merchants.
