Don’t whine

To the editor:

OK, folks, are we done singing the blues yet over the relocation of the KU-Mizzou football game to Arrowhead Stadium? I too will miss the ambiance of the "border war" being held in Lawrence, but there are thousands of Kansas University and Mizzou fans scattered across both states, especially in the metro area, for whom a game at this larger stadium is a major convenience.

Lew Perkins was hired to boost the visibility and ticket sales of KU athletic programs, and that's what this will accomplish.

The Kansas Legislature has been talking recently about financing deferred maintenance with local property taxes levied on university towns. I oppose that idea for the same reason I oppose all this whining. KU belongs to the people of Kansas, both to enjoy and pay for. Like it or not, it's bigger than Lawrence, and certainly bigger than the interests of Lawrence merchants.

Actually, dorothyhr, it worked the other way. KUAC moved the KU/MU game to Kansas City, THEN Neufeld referred to Lawrence as just another Maple Hill, only with a major research university located in it.

Let's keep right on bitching. We may have lost for the next 2 years, but the battle for the decades beyond goes on. Boycott Arrowhead, and fire short-sighted Lew, and his relatives too.

Yeah, and it is jerks like you that are the reason that everything in our modern society has gone to hell following the almigdhty dollar. To hell with tradition, to hell with the fact that the city has been a long time asset to KU, to hell with the fans who have to support the Kansas City Chiefs crummy team performance and crumbling stadium, to hell with everyone who likes to see the historical signifance of a home team rivalry continue. People like you who are always looking for more and more and more $$$$$$$$ at the expensse of everyone and everything is the reason our whole society is going to HELL. You make me sick.

"KU belongs to the people of Kansas, both to enjoy and pay for."

Soooooooo, why is the game in Kansas City, Missouri now? KU may or may not make more money (methinks it'll be a break even proposition compared with just staying in Lawrence), but Lawrence businesses will generate Zero (0) tax dollars for the city and the state.

And I agree with bjohannig... most KU alums live in Joco. The difference in the drive to Arrowhead or Lawrence is moot. The convenience argument is hollow.

The plan is done and that is that for 2 years. I hope it fails miserably.

Neufeld wants Lawrence to pay taxes, because we "benefit" from having KU here, then KU pulls a chunk of that benefit. Real logical, right?

It isn't about convenience for the fans it's about money for the KU sports program.
