Two Lawrence firefighters performed a dramatic rescue of a man who was draped over one of the brick spires on the front of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.
The call for the rescue came in about 5:20 p.m. today, and the man was pulled from his precarious spot about 20 minutes later.
The man apparently had been working to stabilize the spire, which was not one of the two brick towers damaged in the March 12, 2006, microburst. The church sustained $200,000 in damage from the storm.
Firefighters pulled him to safety from the top of the building, which was constructed in 1870.

congratulations paladin and congratulations to the staff writer who was able to effectively use the word "precarious" in a sentence.
