Fire alarm forces evacuation at Naismith Hall

Around approximately 2 a.m. this morning, Lawrence Fire and Medical responded to a fire alarm at Naismith Hall, 1800 Naismith Drive.

According to division chief Doug Green, smoke was reported on the fifth floor and all occupants were evacuated as crews searched the building. A second alarm was made given the type of building and its high occupancy, however no sources of fire were detected and firefighters did find the used extinguisher.

One firefighter was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released. Details as to cause for medical attention were not specified according to division policy.

No damage was reported and occupants returned to their rooms by 3:30 a.m.
