Ruthless tactics
To the editor:
The way Wal-Mart bulldozes its way into places that don’t need it is classic. Let me summarize about a company like Wal-Mart.
It stands for keeping poor people poor while pretending to give them a bargain. The formula is: Sell things cheap with the lowest quality possible, using the cheapest labor possible and taking advantage of people’s poor living conditions here and abroad to pay them low wages, give them minimal health care and expect them to rely on government dole to supplement their low wages. Wal-Mart forbids unions, which, though they aren’t perfect, are the best we have to educate workers about their rights and to keep corporations on their toes.
Where is the outrage at industries like Wal-Mart? Why do we tolerate corporations that scrape so much profit off the top? It is time to recognize Wal-Mart for the ruthless tactics that it lives by.
