Youth flown to hospital after fall from horse

A juvenile, injured in an apparent fall from a horse, was flown by a helicopter ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital Thursday evening from U.S. Highway 59, emergency dispatchers said.

Sheriff’s officers and medical personnel blocked off the highway south of Lawrence between North 1000 and North 900 roads for about an hour.

The call for an ambulance came into emergency dispatchers from a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper just after 7 p.m.

Authorities on the scene later determined that the juvenile was injured near Baldwin and that an adult was trying to take the victim to the hospital.

Additional information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was not available Thursday night.
