Family Music Jam open to public

No musical skills are required for an event tonight that gives aspiring young musicians a chance to make music with others.

Megan Helm, a local children’s music teacher, is hosting a “Family Music Jam” from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today in the movie room of the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St. It’s the fourth in a series of jams she has held this year.

The cost is $1 per person. Parents and children are free to bring whatever instruments they own or have built.

“I felt there needed to be a very low-cost preschool music experience in Lawrence,” Helm said.

The event is geared toward elementary through preschool-aged children, but all ages are welcome. Helm asks that people call ahead at 842-4235 because attendance is capped at 50.
