Police issue report on fatal motorcycle wreck

Police have released a preliminary report on a motorcycle wreck early Sunday that killed a 27-year-old Lawrence man.

Motorcyclist Ryan W. Simecka died at 1:21 a.m. Sunday in the wreck near Fourth and Michigan streets.

He was driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson west on Fourth Street when he struck a Pontiac that was backing out of a private driveway, Lawrence Police said.

Simecka was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, Christina Landis, 26, of Topeka, was flown to University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., with nonlife-threatening injuries. She was in fair condition Tuesday afternoon at the hospital.

The driver of the Pontiac, 26-year-old Jessica Bauer of Lawrence, and a passenger were not injured.

According to a report, Bauer was given a drug and alcohol test, and results are pending.

As of Tuesday, police were reconstructing the accident and investigating how it happened.
