Firebirds stymied by Topeka High

? Despite a strong defensive effort, the Free State High boys soccer team couldn’t overcome an even better performance by Topeka High’s back line, dropping a 1-0 decision Tuesday at Hummer Sports Park.

Firebirds coach Jason Pendleton credited his team for a handful of positive developments throughout the game, but lamented the inability to break through against the Trojans’ all-state goalie, Andrew Dale.

“The better team won tonight, and we have to keep working hard to try and get better,” Pendleton said.

Topeka High improved to 8-1, while Free State slipped to 3-4-1.

The Firebirds will return to action at 6:15 p.m. Thursday against Shawnee Heights in Tecumseh.
