Fatal motorcycle accident report released

Police have released a preliminary report from a motorcycle wreck early Sunday that killed a 27-year-old Lawrence man.

Motorcyclist Ryan W. Simecka died about 1:21 a.m. Sunday in the wreck near Fourth and Michigan streets.

He was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson west on Fourth Street when he struck a Pontiac that was backing out of a private driveway in the 1300 block of Michigan Street, Lawrence Police said.

Simecka was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, Christina Landis, 26, of Topeka, was flown to University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. with non-life-threatening injuries.

She was in fair condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the Pontiac, 26-year-old Jessica Bauer of Lawrence, and a passenger were not injured.

According to a report, Bauer was given a drug and alcohol test, and results are pending.

As of Tuesday, police still are reconstructing the accident and investigating how it happened.
