Weather shortens Free State soccer’s ‘best outing’

? Alex Clayton scored in the 30th minute, and Free State High played Shawnee Mission East to a 1-all tie Thursday in a shortened high school boys soccer match.

The game was stopped early in the second half because of lightning.

“Despite being injured and having different players playing different spots, we played well and competed hard,” Free State coach Jason Pendleton said. “It was our best team outing of the season. Travis Everett, Andrew Heck and Drew Schelar all played very well.”

The Firebirds (2-3-1) will entertain Junction City at 10 a.m. Saturday.
