Fisherman’s body found in Clinton Lake

A dive team helped recover the body of a 52-year-old Topeka fisherman from Clinton Lake Tuesday night, hours after his son reported him missing.

According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Larrie J. Williams failed to come home from a fishing trip Monday night at Clinton Lake. On Tuesday afternoon, his son looked for him and found his pickup truck and boat trailer near the north Bloomington boat ramp.

Wildlife and Parks officers found the man’s 5-foot boat a short distance away in a cove.

Rescue teams used sonar to find Williams’ body in the lake. A dive team from Jefferson County helped pull him from the lake shortly before 8 p.m. It’s still unknown what happened, and an autopsy is pending.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helped in the search, according to Rob Ladner, Wildlife and Parks law enforcement supervisor.
