City manager finalist accepts another job
Lawrence officially now has one less candidate to become the community’s next city manager.
David Watkins, the longtime city manager of Lenexa, confirmed Wednesday that he was a finalist for the job but is now removing his name from consideration. Watkins – who left Lenexa in 2003 to lead the city of Auburn, Ala. – agreed on Tuesday to become the city manager of Bryan, Texas.
City commissioners have refused to name the finalists for the job or even disclose how many finalists they are considering.
Gary Shimun, an assistant city manager of Pembroke Pines, Fla., confirmed Tuesday that he also was a finalist for the position.
