Girl Scouts seek help for camp celebration

The Lawrence Hidden Valley Girl Scout Campground needs volunteers to help with its communitywide 50th Birthday Bash on Saturday. Volunteers are needed for setup anytime between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and to help from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at campsites during the event. The community is invited to share 50 years of memories and help create a bright future for the campground. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Lawrence Meals on Wheels program is in need of volunteer drivers to assist with meal delivery for several recently established delivery routes. Volunteers deliver lunch to homebound community members who are elderly and/or disabled. Driver positions are available each day of the week. Route delivery takes approximately 45 minutes. ¢ Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates plans training classes for new volunteers. Training will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays Oct. 5-Nov. 2. Volunteers must be 21 years or older, submit to background checks and be able to commit to at least one year of service. ¢ Lawrence Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers to help a visually impaired couple move a water bed, remove and replace carpeting, and then put the water bed back into place. Interested volunteers may contact Gwen at 832-0777.

¢ Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks volunteers to serve as advocates, a newly established volunteer position within the organization. Advocates are community volunteers who wish to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters program but are not necessarily able to make the long commitment that is required to become a child’s mentor. This program is designed for community members who have a spare hour or two a month. Call 843-7359 for more information.
