Thunderstorms possible on Thursday

Light winds and lots of sunshine are in store today for Lawrence.

“It looks like a very pleasant day,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

However, it will be a little cool – today’s high temperature will climb to only 70 degrees, she said.

The average high temperature for this date is 80 degrees. The record high was 99 degrees, set in 2000.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 40 degrees, the humidity was 89 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph.

“You’ll want that sweatshirt, maybe even a jacket,” Schack said.

The average low temperature for this date is 58 degrees. The record low was 36 degrees, set in 2003.

Temperatures are expected to climb to the upper 60s by mid afternoon, she said. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph

Overnight, temperatures will fall to 41 degrees by early Wednesday morning. Wednesday’s high will climb to 78, she said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 57, with Thursday’s high reaching 69 degrees. Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Thursday, she said.
