To the editor:

This is in reference to the lady that wrote about “mean lunch ladies.” Evidently she has never had breakfast or lunch with her child(ren).

I have been in food service for 23 years and I am proud of it. People tend to look down their noses at you when you tell them what you do. I will always hold my head up high because there are so many rewards that come with this job. Yes, it is hard and stressful work, but when the students come in with a smile or give you a hug, it’s all worth it.

We (lunch ladies) did not take the sweets from the students. The government did. USD 497 schools are just doing what they’re told.

Parents, please come in and see for yourselves (you’re always welcome), that we are the next best thing to a grandmother and mother.
