Sunny and breezy today

Chance for thunderstorms Saturday night

Sunny skies, but strong winds are on tap for Lawrence today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We are expecting south winds, sunshine and warm temperatures,” Schack said.

The thermometer will climb to 85 degrees, with winds from the south at 15 to 25 mph, she said.

The average high temperature for this date is 81 degrees. The record high was 101 degrees, set in 1931.

At 8:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 57 degrees, the humidity was 87 percent and winds were out of the east at 8 mph. The average low temperature for this date is 60 degrees. The record low was 40 degrees, set in 1961.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 65 degrees by Saturday morning, with winds from the south at 10 to 20 mph, she said.

There’s a very slight chance for a morning storm, she said.

“I think most of us stay dry tomorrow morning,” she said.

Saturday’s high temperature will climb to 89 degrees, with south winds 15 to 25 mph, she said.

Some strong storms are expected to the west of Lawrence Saturday, moving into the Lawrence area on Saturday night into Sunday morning, Schack said.

“We could see a few strong storms,” she said.

Sunday’s temperatures will start at 64 degrees, climbing to 76 degrees on Sunday.
