Firebirds win first

? Free State High soccer won its first game Thursday night in resounding fashion.

The Firebirds, now 1-3, defeated Shawnee Mission North, 4-0, at the Shawnee Mission Complex.

Blaine Juhl scored off an assist from Kyle Ceesay, Alex Clayton scored off an assist from Jesse Clayton and Daniel Chance scored the final goal.

A North player scored one of Free State’s goals as well.

Goalie Mitchell Morrow delivered the shutout. The Firebirds play their next game at Leavenworth at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Olathe North 2, LHS 1

Olathe – Lawrence High soccer lost to Olathe North, 2-1, Thursday night.

Midway through the second half, LHS (3-3) tied the game at one. Senior Caleb Quaye assisted on the goal by senior Kyle Craig. North launched the winning score with 10 minutes left.

LHS coach David Platt lauded the play of sophomore Dar Fornelli.

“He took control of the midfield play,” Platt said.

St. James 6, Seabury 0

Olathe – The Seabury Academy soccer team lost, 6-0, to St. James Academy on Wednesday at Lone Elm Park.

College visits and injuries left Seabury (2-2) with just 10 players on its team.

“6-0 does not speak for their effort,” Seabury coach Gunar Harmon said.

Bill Anderson was the goalie under difficult circumstances.

“He had a hand in a lot of saves,” Harmon said.

Seabury will play host to Baldwin in its next game Sept. 25.
