Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Lawrence Meals on Wheels program is in need of volunteer drivers to assist with meal delivery for several recently established delivery routes. Volunteers deliver lunch to homebound community members who are elderly and/or disabled. Driver positions are available each day of the week. Route delivery takes approximately 45 minutes. For more information, call the Meals on Wheels office at 979-1440.

¢ Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks volunteers to serve as advocates, a newly established volunteer position within the organization. Advocates are community volunteers who wish to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters program but are not necessarily able to make the long commitment that is required to become a child’s mentor. For community members who have a spare hour or two a month, this position would be a perfect fit. Every task that is completed helps another child gain and maintain a mentor. Prospective advocates, please call 843-7359.

¢ Lawrence Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers to assist a visually impaired couple to help to move a waterbed, remove and replace carpeting and then put the waterbed back into place. Interested volunteers may contact Gwen at Lawrence Habitat, 832-0777.

¢ Douglas County Senior Services’ Coupons for Caring program seeks a group of three to five volunteers to work each Friday morning to attach coupons to products at Dillons, 3000 W. Sixth St. This program provides funding for the Lawrence Senior Center.

¢ Operation WildLife provides care and refuge to displaced and injured animals. The organization has openings in the fall for volunteers who can work daytime hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. For more information, contact Jamie Stoughton, volunteer coordinator, at (913) 908-4252 or owlvolunteer@yahoo.com.
