Trash policy

To the editor:

The city normally picks up yard waste on Mondays, but when that day is a holiday, like it was on Labor Day, they pick up yard waste on whatever trash day you normally have.

The problem with this is that the yard waste, instead of being used as compost, as it should be, is just thrown in with the rest of the trash. This practice is wrong on several levels. First, it contributes to overflowing landfills. Secondly, the city is not clear that this is what they do when there is a holiday. Numerous neighbors and myself take the time to collect the yard waste, put it in approved paper bags, only to have the city just throw it in with the rest of the trash. Lastly, it decreases the amount of compost available. This practice should be changed.
