Wal-Mart will celebrate the completion of its supercenter expansion Wednesday morning, and some area agencies will share in the festivities.

The store’s expansion will open formally at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at 3300 Iowa. The expansion includes a grocery, salon and other features.

Wal-Mart also will be giving area agencies $24,500 in grants. Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Douglas County and Lawrence public schools’ Adult Learning Center each will receive a $5,000 grant. Others sharing in grants include: American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts of America, Douglas County CASA Program, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council, Hillcrest School, Junior Achievement and Lawrence Community Theatre.
