Kyle Singler, the country’s No. 4-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2007, will attend Late Night in the Phog on Oct. 13 in Allen Fieldhouse.

Singler, a 6-foot-8 senior forward from South Medford (Ore.) High, will join future KU player Cole Aldrich, a 6-11 senior center from Bloomington, Minn., in the stands at the Jayhawks’ annual season-opening hoops extravaganza.

Singler will visit Arizona on Sept. 15-16 and Duke on Sept. 22-23. He already has visited his other two finalists – UCLA and Washington – unofficially and has made an unofficial trip to Duke.

Rivals.com reports that UCLA coaches will arrive Saturday in Oregon for an in-home visit. Duke’s in-home will be Sept. 13, Washington’s Sept. 18 and KU’s Sept. 19.

James Anderson, a 6-5 senior from Junction City (Ark.) High, is to visit KU on Oct. 6-7. He also will make trips to Arkansas, Florida and Oklahoma State.

Anthony Randolph, a 6-10 senior from Dallas, has yet to set a date for his KU visit. He also will visit Texas, Georgetown, LSU and Cincinnati.

Derrick Rose, 6-4 senior from Chicago, has yet to set a date for his KU visit. He also will visit Memphis, Indiana, DePaul and UCLA.

Rose and Indianapolis prep guard Eric Gordon made an unofficial trip to Indiana last weekend.

The trip worries Illinois fans, considering Gordon has orally committed to Illinois coach Bruce Weber.

“Illini fans need to understand that Eric has a lot of friends going to IU from his high school,” Gordon’s dad, Eric, Sr., told the Chicago Tribune. “E.J. (his son’s nickname) has probably been to Bloomington 15 or 20 times. E.J. was taking a look at Indiana now that they have a new coach to see what’s different. But nothing has changed, as far as I know,” Gordon, Sr., added of his son’s status.

Gordon and Rose played AAU ball together earlier this summer.

“I’ve never seen two kids play so well together,” Gordon, Sr., told the Trib. “It was a treat this summer watching them play.”

Chances are Illini fans will have to sweat it out all the way until the week-long signing period in November.

Aldrich has orally committed to KU, reserving KU’s only open scholarship. KU coach Bill Self has said he could sign two or three players in anticipation of players turning pro.

¢ Escaping a violation: Indiana officials apparently had to scramble to avoid committing an NCAA violation during the Rose-Gordon weekend visit.

IU fans, who entered Assembly Hall thinking they’d be able to watch the two play in a pick-up game, were told to leave the building 15 minutes before tip. The NCAA prohibits schools from publicizing recruits’ visits. Allowing fans to watch the game likely would have been deemed a secondary violation.

¢ Bulls-Sonics tickets update: So far, 8,500 tickets have been sold for the Chicago Bulls-Seattle SuperSonics NBA exhibition game set for 1 p.m., Oct. 15, in Allen Fieldhouse.

The game features the return of former KU teammates Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison, as well as former Jayhawk assistant coach Bob Hill, who coaches the Sonics.

Hill worked at KU from 1977 to ’85 for coaches Ted Owens (six years) and Larry Brown (two seasons). Hill left KU after the 1984-85 season, taking an assistant’s post with the New York Knicks.
