Backup plan
To the editor:
As a fiddle student, our 14-year-old son was very enthused about participating in his first competition on Sunday, Aug. 27, at South Park. It’s our understanding that this was to have been the 26th Kansas Fiddling and Picking Championships, but the weather didn’t cooperate and the competition was canceled. There was no alternate plan for an indoor location and no rain date had been established.
Being newcomers to this competition, we were very disappointed by the cancellation. If this is truly a legitimate championship event, alternate plans would have been decided on beforehand. Out of respect to all potential participants – many who came from out of town – as much preparation should have been undertaken by the organizers of this event as was done by those who were there to compete.
