Truck crash into house under investigation

September 2, 2006

Police say they're still investigating what led a 19-year-old Lawrence woman to crash a stolen vehicle into an East Lawrence home early Friday morning.

The woman went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with injuries after the Ford F-150 truck - taken about 5 a.m. from Penny's Construction garage at 13th and Oregon streets - crashed into the kitchen of a single-story home at 1401 E. 15th St, above. Police said the woman had been driving south on Prairie Street when she crashed into the home.

The owner of the house was asleep in the living room, but was not injured in the accident. The truck hit the natural gas meter, requiring a representative from Aquila to shut off the gas to the home.

Police initially said they were waiting for the woman to receive treatment before further investigation. But the department did not identify the woman Friday, and an update on her condition wasn't available.
