Chemistry professor receives rare honor

Kansas University medicinal chemistry professor Gary Grunewald has been named a founding member of the hall of fame of the American Chemical Society, Division of Medicinal Chemistry.

He is one of only three to receive the honor given to members of the society’s Division of Medicinal Chemistry for making great contributions to medical chemistry through research, teaching and service.

Grunewald and his fellow inductees will be recognized at the society’s fall meeting Sept. 13 in San Francisco.

Grunewald joined KU’s medicinal chemistry department in 1966 and was department chairman from 1994 to 2003. He previously was honored with the Higuchi-Simons Research Achievement Award for research excellence in biomedical sciences at KU.
