Proud liberal

To the editor:

As I read Leonard Pitts Jr.’s column about the war of words, I recalled his remarkable facility with words when he recently spoke in Lawrence. I also reflected on the word “liberal” and why I view it as a compliment – still.

I believe that to be liberal you must want to view different sides of a question or problem and that to define a problem or group of people with one word is probably prejudicial.

I hope that what we need is a continuing fairness, and if it’s called liberal to be proud of it.
