Artistic legacy

I really enjoyed reading about 20 years of Liberty Hall. International, national, regional and local artists have appeared at this great venue helping make Lawrence the unique community it strives to be. However, one artist that “plays the hall” every night was overlooked in the article.
Artwork by Dennis Helm graces the interior of Liberty Hall. It is a major addition to the life of the hall.
Dennis died of AIDS on June 4, 1992. The city has a number of Dennis’ paintings that resulted from a CETA Grant in the 1970s. Lawrence is fortunate that David Millstein and Charlie Oldfather recognized Dennis’ artistic genius.
