Kansas Board of Tax Appeals member resigns
Kansas Board of Tax Appeals member Tom Slack has resigned.
Board officials confirmed today that Slack turned in a letter of resignation late last week, effective at the end of this year. The resignation comes just days before an interim legislative committee was to address the issue of the board member’s qualifications, and adherence to the state’s Code of Judicial Conduct.
Slack’s conduct and close relationship to lawyers who present cases before the board came into question earlier this year in a Journal-World story. He was also the focus of an internal investigation by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ office. He had served on the board since 2003.
“We thank him for his service, and wish him well,” said Matt All, chief counsel for Sebelius.
