Cool, blustery and damp weather ahead

Cold front bringing chance for sprinkles this afternoon

If you think this morning is cool and drizzly, just wait until this afternoon – temperatures will fall all day into the 40s, with blustery winds and the chance for some sprinkles.

“It’s a pretty dreary day,” said Sarah Jones, 6News weather forecaster. “We have a cold front moving through and that is causing temperatures to drop off.”

With the cold front, there will be some drizzle and the possibility of some light showers later in the day, Jones said.

“You may want to grab the umbrella in case you happen to be out and it starts to sprinkle,” she said.

Winds are blustering out of the north, around 10 to 20 mph, she said. Some gusts may be as high as 30 mph, she said.

At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 51 degrees, the humidity was 83 percent and winds were out of the north at 12 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 48 degrees. The record low was 24 degrees, set in 1999.

The average high temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record high was 87 degrees, set in 1953.

“We shouldn’t have to worry about any rain tomorrow,” Jones said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 36 degrees, with Thursday’s high climbing to 58 degrees, she said. Skies will be partly cloudy skies, she said.

Friday’s morning low will be 37 degrees, with the temperature reaching 65 by late Friday afternoon, she said.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 20 percent chance of rain Friday night, a 40 percent chance Saturday and a 20 percent chance Saturday night.
