Damp start, but some sunshine later

Chance for rain as colder temperatures move in Wednesday

A foggy, damp and cloudy morning is in store for Lawrence.

But warm temperatures in the 70s and a little sunshine are moving in this afternoon, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Be careful on your way to work,” Schack said. She said there are some patches of dense fog in low lying area, but winds were keeping heavy fog from developing.

The National Weather Service reported that patchy dense fog could reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile through 10 a.m.

At 7:15 a.m., there was fog and mist at Lawrence Municipal Airport, the temperature was 57 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were out of the southwest at 3 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 48 degrees. The record low was 26 degrees, set in 1976.

The average high temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record high was 87 degrees, set in 1921.

Schack said Lawrence’s high temperature would climb to 72 degrees today, with some sunshine. Winds will be out of the south from 5 to 10 mph, she said.

Heavy rainfall has stayed to the east of the Lawrence area.

She said Lawrence had 1.03 inches of rain for Sunday and Monday.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 51 degrees by early Wednesday morning, she said.

Wednesday also brings a chance for a midday shower, she said.

Wednesday’s high will be 53 degrees about 10 a.m., with temperatures falling to 46 degrees by 5 p.m., she said.

Thursday’s morning low will fall to 35 degrees, with Thursday’s high climbing to 54 degrees, she said.
