Wichita ? Free State High’s No. 1 doubles team of Julia Guard and Leigh Luiña lost both of its doubles matches Friday at the Class 6A girls state tennis tournament.

In the first round, Susanna Crandall and Elise Bruns of Topeka High defeated the Free State duo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Guard and Luiña then lost to third-seeded Lindsey Jenkins and Meredith Marney of Maize, 6-2, 6-1.

Guard and Luiña close their Firebirds career with two state berths to their credit, also qualifying for last fall’s doubles bracket in Topeka.
